School Bollywood Dance Workshops @ St Ives School in Haslemere – Surrey

A cold January afternoon was wonderfully warmed up last week when girls from St Ives and Beacon Hill Community School joined forces to learn the art of Bollywood dance.
The event, hosted by St Ives School, was created to promote awareness of other cultures and to build links with other schools. St Ives Year Two girls were thrilled to be joined by 30 girls from Beacon Hill School for the afternoon on Wednesday 27th January. Excitement levels escalated with the arrival of their energetic and inspiring dance instructor Kalpesh Zalavadiya, of K’z Dance Entertainment – a London-based dance company specialising in Bollywood dance and fitness entertainment.
In the space of just 90 minutes Kalpesh had produced a stunning piece of dance that saw all 40 girls involved performing a fully choreographed and synchronised dance routine using dandiya sticks. The children then performed their routine to children and parents from both schools. Parents and staff in the audience didn’t get off lightly, however, when Kalpesh called them up to learn some Bollywood dance moves of their own. It was an uplifting and exhausting session for all involved.
This was a wonderful joining together of two local schools to learn the exhilarating art of Bollywood dance, and tremendous fun was had by all.
